Basic Oatmeal Porridge Recipe
Basic Oatmeal Porridge Recipe
If you're a fan of oatmeal (please don't tell me you're not), you'll agree with me that it is actually very filling (perfect for the weight-conscious) and healthy.
There's no end to the many ways you can enjoy your oatmeal but today I'll just be giving you the basic recipe from which others were/can be derived.Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of white oats
- 1 cup of water
- 3 tablespoons of milk powder
- Sweetener (sugar, honey, date syrup etc.) to taste.
Procedure:
Stovetop:
- Place the water in a pot. You can substitute with equal volume of whole milk or 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of milk.
- Add the oats and stir
- Cover and cook for 5 minutes on a medium heat stirring occasionally to avoid burning.
- Add a little more water if the consistency is too thick for your liking and especially if you'll be adding milk powder.
- Bring down from heat and pour in a plate. Add the milk powder and your choice of sweetener to taste, mix properly and serve.
Microwave:
- Combine 1 cup of water (or nonfat or low-fat milk), 1/2 cup of oats and a pinch of salt (if desired) in a 2-cup microwavable bowl.
- Microwave on high for 2 minutes.
- Stir before serving.
Add-ins/Toppings:
- For flavours and spice: ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla
- Fruits either chopped up or as a puree: banana, apple, mango, grapes, berries.
- Nuts and seeds: almonds, peanuts, cashew nuts, chia seeds etc.
